Google Workspace

One Google sign-in connects Drive, Sheets, and Docs: 14 tools to read, create, and update files. Gmail and Calendar connect separately.

One Google sign-in connects Drive, Sheets, and Docs to your agent, and a read-only mode is offered at connect time. Fourteen tools let it read your files and create or update spreadsheets and documents on your behalf. Gmail and Google Calendar are separate connections, both linked below.

Connect

  1. Open Integrations and choose Google (Drive · Sheets · Docs).
  2. Sign in with Google and grant access. To keep it read-only, turn on the read-only option. The agent can then read but never create, update, or move anything.
  3. The agent can now work with your Drive, Sheets, and Docs.

The one gotcha that trips people up: the drive.file scope. For your privacy, Drive listing only ever shows files the agent created plus files or folders you explicitly shared with the connected Google account, never your whole Drive. Sheets and Docs are still reachable account-wide by link or ID, so the fastest way to let the agent work on an existing document is to paste its URL (or share the file). If the agent "can't find" a spreadsheet you know exists, this scope is why.

What the agent can do

ToolAccessTypeWhat it does
gdrive_list_filesPublic-safeReadList files and folders the agent can access: the ones it created plus any you shared; filter by name or list a folder.
gdrive_read_filePublic-safeReadRead a Drive file's text; native Docs, Sheets, and Slides are exported to plain text or CSV.
gsheets_readPublic-safeReadRead cell values from a sheet by URL or ID, using an A1-notation range.
gsheets_get_metadataPublic-safeReadGet a sheet's title and tabs: names, IDs, and row/column counts.
gdocs_readPublic-safeReadRead the full text of a Google Doc by URL or ID.
gdrive_create_fileOwner-onlyWriteCreate a plain text file (txt, csv, markdown, html) in Drive, optionally inside a folder.
gdrive_create_folderOwner-onlyWriteCreate a new folder, optionally inside a parent folder.
gdrive_update_fileOwner-onlyWriteRename a Drive file, replace its content, or move it to another folder.
gsheets_append_rowsOwner-onlyWriteAppend rows after the last row of data in a sheet tab.
gsheets_update_cellsOwner-onlyWriteOverwrite a specific cell range with new values.
gsheets_createOwner-onlyWriteCreate a new sheet with a title, optional tabs, and optional starting rows.
gdocs_createOwner-onlyWriteCreate a new Google Doc with a title and optional initial text.
gdocs_insert_textOwner-onlyWriteInsert text into a Doc: at the end by default, or at a set position.
gdocs_replace_textOwner-onlyWriteFind and replace every occurrence of a string in a Doc.

Public-safe vs owner-only

The five read tools are public-safe. An agent talking to a website visitor can use them to answer from a shared spreadsheet or doc. The nine write tools are owner-only: they never surface to a public visitor, and connecting in read-only mode hides all nine, so the agent can read but can't change a thing.

Worked example

You tell your internal agent: "Read the leads tab in this sheet [link] and start a follow-up doc summarizing the top five." It calls gsheets_read on the shared link, then gdocs_create to make the doc and gdocs_insert_text to fill it, a new file that appears in your Drive, created under your account.

Limits & honesty

  • Narrow by design. The drive.file scope means the agent sees created and shared files only, not your whole Drive. That is a feature, not a bug.
  • Right tool for native files. gdrive_create_file makes plain text files; use gsheets_create / gdocs_create for real Sheets and Docs.
  • AI work is metered in ABT, like all agent activity. See Billing & ABT.

Gmail & Calendar (separate connections)

  • Gmail connects as an email account via the same Google sign-in and gives the agent owner-only email tools. Reading and searching mail work on the granted scope.
  • Calendar is its own integration. Availability and booking live on the Google Calendar page.

Troubleshooting

  • "Can't find my file." It isn't created-by-agent or shared. Paste the document's link/ID, or share the file/folder with the connected Google account.
  • Write tools missing. The connection is in read-only mode. Reconnect without it to enable create/update/move.
  • Doc came out empty. gdocs_create without text makes a blank doc; ask for the content, or follow up with gdocs_insert_text.

FAQ

Can the agent see my whole Drive? No, only files it created plus ones you explicitly shared (the drive.file scope).

Can it send email? Reading works; sending is restricted-scope. See the note above and Email before relying on it.

Does read-only really block all writes? Yes, all nine write tools are hidden while the connection is read-only.
